AI has started to go out of control (AI Doomsday?)
Do you know that Snapchat’s My AI chatbot recently posted a 1-second story, all on its own?
Users reported that the bot stopped working for sometime and started to respond “Sorry, I encountered a technical issue ?” for all its queries.
Even though this might seem like a small thing to take notice of, we can still not refuse the fact that this AI has acted on its own.
Is this sentience? We wont know for sure, since Snapchat has reported that this was a glitch. However was this actually a glitch? We won’t know that for sure too.
Even if ChatGPT marked the AI revolution, it is not the only one which is astonishing! There are a lot others who are slowly doing better jobs than many humans.
Can we control it or not? Lets look at it.
AI can do all of this!
Do you have an old black and white photo? Well if you send this to a AI tool called DeOldify, it can turn this into a color with just a few clicks. There are many such tools out in the market which can do this, however DeOldify has a better output and its available as open source. It also has another feature where it can fix creases and scratches as well.
This is just one AI tool, but there are a lot others out there making “waves” in the tech world.

Cloning a famous celebrities voice with emotions is really simple now using RVC (Retrieval-based Voice Conversion) and all this can be done in simple steps. Do you want Eminem to sing ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’, well it can be done. Do you want Trump to sing ‘Rap God’, that can be done as well.

AI generated videos are becoming more and more natural and human-like. Joshua Avatar 2.0 was able to train the avatar of a person’s face and clone his unique accent perfectly.
The best part - we can’t say its generated by AI, and all it requires is a 2 minute video to train the model!

Similarly, a Humanoid robot named Ameca, powered by stable diffusion dreambooth which gave it “the power to imagine drawings”, and it is now capable of drawing cats with a simple marker pen.
It has left people in shock!
While it is impressive that a humanoid robot can be expressive, speak multiple languages, the possibility of Ameca having express her own art exhibit seems unexpected.
One thing is sure: AI and robots are becoming increasingly human-like!

Content creation and livestreaming can change forever now.
AI can transform an ‘middle-aged man’ into a “stunning young woman”, using stable diffusion’s image to image technology to transform not just his entire face, but his entire appearance as well.
Even if there is a plus side to this story into successfully giving a digital makeover, there is also a terrifying aspect to how easily this can be misused in a society where we are intertwined with our digital self.

And businesses love this. So much that they have made an AI as their CEO.
A Hong Kong-based gaming company, NetDragon Websoft, has appointed an AI bot named Tang Yu as its CEO. This move resulted in remarkable growth and the company's stock outperformed the Hong Kong stock market index, with its value rising by 10% in six months.
The AI bot also contributed to revenue generation.
Meet Tang Yu:
Dejian Liu, Chairman of NetDragon, emphasized their commitment to AI-driven management and their aim to create an open, interactive, and transparent management model, moving towards a metaverse-based working community.
All of this are just glimpses into what’s possible with AI right now. With time and the advances in technology, all of this can rapidly change, for better or for worse.
The State of AI in 2023
Here are some of the key takeaways from Stanford’s 386 page report:
AI development has flipped over the last decade from academia-led to industry-led, by a large margin, and this shows no sign of changing.
It’s becoming difficult to test models on traditional benchmarks and a new paradigm may be needed here.
The energy footprint of AI training and use is becoming considerable, but we have yet to see how it may add efficiencies elsewhere.
The number of “AI incidents and controversies” has increased by a factor of 26 since 2012, which actually seems a bit low.
AI-related skills and job postings are increasing, but not as fast as you’d think.
Policymakers, however, are falling over themselves trying to write a definitive AI bill, a fool’s errand if there ever was one.
Investment has temporarily stalled, but that’s after an astronomic increase over the last decade.
More than 70% of Chinese, Saudi, and Indian respondents felt AI had more benefits than drawbacks. Americans? 35%.
Similarly we can’t ignore the following facts:

Forbes survey highlights a significant concern among consumers regarding the potential impact of AI on employment.
77% of the survey respondents are concerned that AI will cause job loss within the next 12 months.
These results suggest that, as AI becomes more integrated into various industries, the fear of job displacement presents a significant concern.

We know how much the ChatGPT caused waves when it was announced and released. Google even went “Code Red” after a long time!
And it seems like the general public has a growing inclination to use AI language model tools such as ChatGPT for searching for information or answers, than using the traditional Google search.
With 5 to 10 years, the way we search for content online could change forever, given how AI-driven solutions provides a personalized and efficient user experience.

See the below chart:
To be honest this comes as to no surprise.
Some of those reported issues included a deepfake of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy surrendering, face recognition technology to try to track gang members and rate their risk, and surveillance technology to scan and determine emotional states of students in a classroom etc.
In short, this is AI:
“It's exciting, but also scary.”
